For much of the rest of the quarter we will be working on a portrait project, which is a response to the “Hapa Project”. You might have a look at the 3 books that I have on reserve in the Library featuring the work of Edward Curtis, Annie Leibovitz, and Kip Fulbeck.
Consider the following parameters adding comments as appropriate
I. Subjects
A. Students? All ethnic backgrounds? How do we ensure diverse subjects?
B. Other issues of identity? Sexual orientation, social class, religion, occupation, age?
II. What role will text play?
A. Are there questions we would like the subjects to respond to?

III. My advanced student Elena Tarassova and I have pretty much settled on black-and-white
Film-based portraits using medium format film and a Hasselblad camera.
