Art Gallery Attendant Job

Gallery Attendant responsibilities vary from consistent monitoring of the gallery space to active exhibit installation. Attendants must make sure to greet and provide exhibit information to each gallery visitor in addition to making sure that all gallery rules are being followed by visitors. Gallery Attendants are also given opportunities to plan and do research for various events throughout the year such as film series, artist talks and poetry jams.

Attendants must be interested in learning about the art presented in each exhibit so that they are comfortable answering questions for visitors. Gallery attendants are expected to write and submit articles to the Sentinel Newspaper throughout the year as well and will attend trainings to realize this goal. Mailings, contact list management, organization of archival materials and some publicity design are all important parts of the Attendants routine. Comfort using computers and Microsoft Office software is required. In addition to the organizational and planning aspects of this job attendants will learn how to install and strike gallery exhibits.

An Attendant must be comfortable using basic tools and installation hardware, must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and must be comfortable working on a ladder. The Gallery Attendants will gain an understanding and appreciation for the art in the Gallery through weekly staff trainings and will participate actively in the SSCC community.

Skills
Required:

Interest or background in the arts
Some experience with Microsoft programs (training opportunities will be provided to new hires)
Ability to work independently on research or event planning projects
Self Motivated
Interest in learning to write and read arts based articles
Comfortable working on a ladder
Comfortable installing or learning how to install artwork

Additional Info:
Applicants with workstudy awards are encouraged to apply but this is not mandatory.

The current payrate is $9/hr (non workstudy rate)
