Alejandro Tomàs will present his 26 year documentary regarding an elite group (in existence since 1930) of wealthy, powerful, American conservatives, who gather for an annual, week-long trail ride. Inspired by the research and writings of sociologist Dr. G. William Domhoff on class and power, Tomàs turned his camera away from the problems of the world and sought the opposite direction; towards the possible causes. Tomàs' provocative images provide illustrated evidence of the conscious and deliberate forms of power abuse at play in our country. He has attempted to support of Domhoff's premise that social cohesion leads to policy cohesion and that these factors, often hidden from public view, have far-reaching consequences for the ordinary citizens of the country. It is Tomàs hope that the project will serve as a visual compliment to Dr. Domhoff's work and as a springboard for thoughtful and informed dialogue about the responsibility of power and the role of ethical leadership in America. Simply put, to raise anew Domhoff's overarching question: WHO RULES AMERICA?

Tomàs served as a Navy photographer in Vietnam and was a member of the White House Press Corps during the Reagan Administration. He has photographed nationally and internationally for magazines such as TIME, Newsweek and Forbes. Currently, Tomàs teaches in the Commercial Photography Program at Seattle Central Community College. Additionally, he is a project photographer of the Blue Earth Alliance and co-founder of Youth In Focus. YIF is a non profit arts program that uses photography to raise the self-esteem of disadvantaged, inner-city youth.

Tomas and Dr. Domhoff co-wrote an academic paper on the subject of his documentary and presented it to the International Visual Sociology Association in Urbino Italy in 2006. For more information about the role of power in America, please visit Dr. Domhoff's site: www.whorulesamerica.net <http://www.whorulesamerica.net>
